A very interesting street art appears in the city of Simferopol from time to time. This is the work of an anonymous artist with the nickname Sharik, who is compared with the well-known and infamous Banksy.
For the past couple of years you can find interesting pictures in the streets of Simferopol and other cities: this is a bright and witty sociopolitical street art from an artist with the nickname Sharik (The Balloon in English). Underground Andrei Sharik is compared with the British Banksy not because of anonymity (if you are a street artist, it is necessary for you to stay anonymous in order not to be caught by the police), but because of his manner of works execution and their stories. Sharik picks anti-capitalist themes that make fun of the system, as well as work with the local environment context, depicting Ukrainian and Russian politicians. Today you can find in about 40 works of this underground art activist, some of which, however, can be seen only in pictures: the most radical drawings are found and painted out by the police.
The process of creating street art works is an unauthorized act in fact. “Street art includes a huge array of different techniques, and I give preference to a screen technology because a pattern favors a drawing of the least details and promotes a relatively rapid deposition of the pattern, which is very important, especially when it comes to illegal drawing”, the artist says.
Certainly, some works of Sharik are not easy to understand for people who are unfamiliar with social and political situation in Ukraine and Russia, but this fact does not make such an art really cool, inspiring, and even unique somehow. Sharik is not Banksy: yes, he uses the same techniques, but he still has his own points of view to tell people about.
